I had the opportunity to see this film tonight and it really struck a chord with I.
Ever since I was around 12 years old I felt drawn to Reggae music and culture. Most of the people around me found this to be a bit odd, as I am a white kid from a small city in Canada. Even on family vacations I asked my dad to take me to places where I could get Rasta related items such as CDs,posters, and t-shirts. In the tenth grade I wrote a paper and received top marks on Rastafarianism. Some kids teased me relentlessly about my wanting to be black. Looking back on it I see that it's just who I am.
Watching this film reminds me of the inspiration Bob has been to my life and the lives of so many others. I am reminded that I don't need to explain why I love the things I love, but rather that I stay true to them. Rasta has a place in my soul and no one can tell me that its wrong or unreal. Rastafari has taught me that love and respect are the root of unity in this life and I have experienced this through music. I know what is real. I live it everyday. Beyond what is expected of I from Babylon.
We truly are one people and it is the words of Bob Marley that promote this message of Unity and Peace.
I hope you find this to be as inspiring as I have. Jah Bless.
